After recently leaving my corporate sales job of 9 years, I am now a full-time garden enthusiast, business owner, and blogger. I created Nest In Style to share my love of gardening and modern design. Hence the reason I created aHa! Modern Living. I recently received my Home Horticulture Certificate from Oregon State University. In the past, I refused to speak Latin and referred to plants only by their common names. However, after my first visit to a wholesale nursery, where plant tags don’t exist, I learned very quickly the value of knowing each plant’s Latin name.
I love experimenting with plant combinations and various hardscape materials. I admit, I’m an impatient gardener. I often uproot plants that were thoughtfully placed last week, and move them to another area the following weekend. My partner and I spend most sunny days maintaining, creating, or completely re-doing, our garden beds. As an inspired do-it-yourselfer, I have built furniture, decks, garden sheds, arbors, and walkways for our home.

I was trained as a Master Gardener in California and Idaho. I’m passionate about sustainable gardening, local foods, healthy living and seasonal folklore from the past; and enjoy writing about these topics for print and online publications. A bit of a gypsy at heart, I’ve lived everywhere from downtown Boston to the Bavarian Alps. I currently reside near the Boise foothills (Zone 6B), where I co-authored “Grocery Gardening: Planting, Preparing and Preserving Fresh Food,” (Cool Springs Press, 2010). I am a salesperson by day and everything else by night. She has graciously asked me to contribute to her blog because we have known each other for over ten years. Over those ten years, we have been through many things including home decorating, gardening and home improvement successes and failures. When it comes to gardening, EASY is my motto. I tend to focus more on landscaping and I have designed, developed and maintained numerous yards. I am a classic do-it-yourselfer with a bent for problem solving. If you can’t find what you need then design and build it yourself.
My style tends to be a bit of a “mish and mash.” It borders on Modern/Contemporary, but I have a hard time losing the Antique/Country style, because I own a horse and those styles can set you back a hundred years. I am here to learn and share everything. I look forward to communicating with everyone on the internet.
